Randolph honored at State Fair as
one of 12 finalists for
State Teacher of the Year

|
| Mustang Mid-High geometry teacher and MHS soccer coach, Russell
Randolph, was honored Sept. 22 at the State Teacher of the Year
ceremony at the State Fair of Oklahoma. Randolph was one of 12
finalists from across the state vying for the title of State Teacher
of the Year.
Although another of the 12 finalists was chosen as the State
Teacher of the Year, MMH Principal Kenny Nelson said it was a
win-win for Mustang Public Schools.
“We all wish that he would have been chosen and represented Mustang
across the state, but it’s a win for our ninth grade students that
we get to keep such a strong teacher in the classroom,” he said.
“Russell Randolph is an effective teacher because he has a passion
for individual learning. He doesn’t just look at the classroom as a
whole. He’s willing to put in whatever time it takes for these kids
to succeed.”
As one of the 12 finalists, Randolph received several gifts
including an iPod shuffle, zoo membership and a one-year site
license for concept mapping software.
Russell said he was honored and humbled to have been selected as one
of the 12 finalists, but the greatest reward was being selected
Teacher of the Year in Mustang.
“I truly believe that as a Finalist I was merely a representative of
the excellence in Mustang Public Schools and our collaborative
pursuit for encouraging a passion for learning so that we can
achieve a better tomorrow … the greatest honor I received during the
entire process was when my colleagues at the Mid-High honored me
with the Teacher of the Year for my school,” Randolph said. “This
acknowledgment from my immediate peers informed me I was doing
something good at my school for my students.”
Randolph said all other honors paled in comparison with the original
honor of making an impact on Mustang 9th grade students and
teachers.
“ I think that is what drove me through the state processes,” he
said. “I wanted to say thank you to my school, my peers, and my
students, and the only way for me to do that was to put sincerity
and passion into my state application so that I could return the
honor to them and Mustang.”
